Do you have a camera? Are you an amateur / professional photographer? What if you could make someone smile by using your camera?

Every December 6th, thousands of photographers, hair stylists, makeup artists and volunteers around the world offer their time, equipment and expertise to give back to the communities they live in. This holiday season will mark the fifth year for our city to host the Help-Portrait Day, and we are hoping to reach out further with this wonderful and continuing initiative. The 2014 Saskatoon Help-Portrait Day will take place at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge, 602 20th Street West.

The concept behind this event is simple: find someone in needtake their portraitprint their portraitand deliver it.

Help-Portrait was founded by photographers Jeremy Cowart and Kyle Chowning in 2008. It is about giving the pictures, not taking them. It is about giving to people who otherwise could not afford a professional photography session, a chance to capture a moment, a memory, hope and pride.

Here is a short spunky video from help-portrait.com with explanation what it is all about:

The Saskatoon event on December 6, 2014 will bring together:

  • hair and make-up professionals with a free make-over before pictures are taken,
  • professional photographers taking portraits at several booths with studio lighting and backgrounds,
  • a team with computers to post process and print pictures on site and presented to the recipients that same day,
  • food and beverages for participants,
  • a few local service groups with information booths.

In the last 5 seasons we have seen over 350 families receive professional family images just in time for Christmas. This year Help-Portrait Saskatoon is turning to you for a helping hand. In the spirit of giving, we ask you to donate or be a sponsor of the Saskatoon event. The money you donate will go towards covering the cost of make-up supplies, printing supplies, equipment rental or purchase and food for the less fortunate attending this event. The money we receive will be spent wisely and we will trasfer the remaining donation funds to the White Buffalo Youth Lodge and other local charities.

Let’s all contribute and make this year’s event an even bigger success than in 2013 and show that we are a city and community that cares! If you have any questions please contact the main organizer, Bruce Johnson, by phone at 306-380-8811 / 306-374-8774 or by e-mail: b.johnson@sasktel.net
