Canadian photography magazines Photo Life and Photo Solution are inviting photographers to submit their best work to The World We Live In photo contest. There are three main themes:

  • Humanity – Each person has a story to tell. Capture images of people around you; show some of the many facets of humanity.
  • The Environment – Show the outstanding beauty of our living world, whether through wide landscapes or close-ups of natural elements, animals, plants or insects.
  • Interconnections – Humans are by nature interactive beings. Show how we transform and create things.

Contest is open to amateur and professional photographers from Canada and the United States.
(for purpose of this contest, a professional photographer is defined as a person who earns more than 50 percent of his or her income from photographic work and regularly publishes photographs in books, magazines, newspapers or online. All professional photographers must compete in the ‘professional’ category. In addition, anyone who does not meet these criteria but feels his or her practice of photography has reached the professional level is welcome to choose to compete in this category.

Deadline for submitting images is November 25, 2013. There is an entry fee associated with the contest:

  • Subscribers to Photo Life and/or Photo Solution: $8 for 10 images (additional images: $8 per 10 images)
  • Non-subscribers to Photo Life or Photo Solution: $12 for 10 images (additional images: $12 per 10 images)

After reading the fine print, it looks to me that this contest is not a classic image grab so prevalent today. The organizers, Apex Publications Inc., reserve the rights to publish winning images in its magazines and electronic media. Not rights to all images submitted to the contest. Which sounds right as photo competition winners will be receiving compensation in form of prizes which are valued more than $40,000
