Tris post does not have too much to do with photography. I am presenting it here to promote a worth-while cause. Parks Canada is running a contest to promote awareness of our national parks.   If you are a parent with a grade 8 student, please read the notice below and encourage your kid(s) to think about visiting one in the near future.

Are you or do you know a grade 8 / secondary 2 student or teacher? If so, did you know that all grade 8 / secondary 2 classes in Canada are eligible to win Canada’s Coolest School Trip, an all-expense paid trip to Parks Canada places and other great prizes?

For the second year, Parks Canada and its partners, Nature Canada, Historica-Dominion Institute and Canadian Geographic Education, have launched the Canada’s Coolest School Trip contest, which is part of the My Parks Pass program. Last year, a grade 8 class from PEI won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Banff National Park. This year, the winning class will visit Parks Canada’s special places in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Among many activities, the winning grade 8 / secondary 2 class will help celebrate the 300th anniversary of Fortress of Louisbourg and visit the spectacular Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Classes have until February 24 to submit their entry, and the winning class will be announced in early April. The trip will take place June 3-7, 2013.

To enter the contest, grade 8 / secondary 2 classes must produce an ad in the category of their choice (video, radio or print) that encourages Canadians to visit one or both of these two special places. For contest details, please visit www.contest.myparkspass.ca or www.concours.monpasseportparcs.ca.

The My Parks Pass program provides free entry for grade 8 / secondary 2 students in all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas administrated by Parks Canada. The My Parks Pass program also includes an Activity Guide, a Facebook page, a Twitter feed and other contests such as the Ultimate Family Adventure contest.
