Flower photography workshop

July 6 and July 7, 2016

This hands-on class will introduce you to photography techniques for creating beautiful and unique images of flowering plants in a simple home studio setting.  The flower photography workshop is suitable for photographers of all skill levels, and gardeners who wish to learn how to take beautiful pictures of flowering plants in their gardens.

There will be two separate classes, each limited to 15 participants:

  • Wednesday, July 6, 2016  (7 – 9:30 p.m.)
  • Thursday, July 7, 2016  (7 – 9:30 p.m.)

You will master creative use of lenses and camera settings to control perspective and depth of field, and learn about natural and artificial lighting techniques used in flower photography.  A short lecture-style introduction will cover the basics of lens choice, camera aperture selection, colour theory and the use of light modifiers to control light quality in outdoor (natural) and indoor home conditions. After a short break, participants will work in small groups on several workstations with different flower and background combinations. You will be challenged to look beyond the obvious and create beautiful impressionistic images.

Bring your camera, a lens with a close-focusing capability and a tripod. An external flash is optional.

Registration fee: $50 + GST per person
