Digital photography course starts next week

There are still a few spots left for the digital photography course that I will be teaching this fall. Our first class is on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. The photography course will provide participants with a foundation of digital image capture and processing. It is aimed at novice and photographers with intermediate skill levels. The course will take place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and includes seven 90-minute in-class lectures and one outdoor field trip. The registration fee is $120 / participant and you can register by following the link.     I am still in Croatia and will be returning to Saskatoon this weekend. The image you see above is of my friend Dragomir photographing forest in autumn colours along the road from Veliki Alan to Stirovaca. We were in Sjeverni Velebit National Park, central Croatia....

Autumn in Prince Albert National Park

Autumn in Prince Albert National Park

At the end of September I led a photography tour to Prince Albert National Park in northern Saskatchewan. We were fortunate this year to be in the park right at the time when leaf colours were starting to change into the full glory of autumn colours. The weather was also very cooperative; early in the weekend we had some interesting clouds for late afternoon and sunset photography. Saturday was overcast which allowed us to spend more time inside the woods and focus on colour patterns and details on the forest floor. It cleared overnight and on Sunday morning we enjoyed photographing gentle fog rolling over the Waskesiu Lake. Later on that day, we were able to capture various shades of yellow and red against a clear blue sky. Here are a few images captured in Prince Albert National Park that weekend. I would like to thank the photo tour participants for their friendship, laughter and great discussion. ‘Wonders of Croatia’ presentation at the Frame by Frame PhotoForum

I will be presenting at the ‘Frame by Frame PhotoForum’ in Regina, Saskatchewan (November 1-2, 2014). This two-day photography festival is packed with fantastic, well-known speakers from across Canada. The PhotoForum is a great opportunity to get inspired and learn about photography from some of this country’s finest photographers. My presentation ‘Wonders of Croatia’ is on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Renowned for its natural beauty and historical heritage, Croatia is rapidly gaining popularity as a travel destination. For a good reason, as it is home to some of the most beautiful natural and historic areas of Southern Europe. The country offers diverse culture, great food, ancient walled towns and medieval castles (such as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ – the walled city of Dubrovnik), coastal towns with stunning architecture, pristine beaches, and over 1,000 islands along the Dalmatian coast. Croatian interior is rich with forested mountains and natural jewels such as the Plitvice Lakes National Park, with 16 turquoise lakes, hundreds of inter-connected waterfalls, and spectacular karst formations. I will show images from many locations that we will visit during the photography tour to Croatia. Other presenters at the 2014 PhotoForum: Freeman Patterson: Embracing creation Mike Grandmaison: Meditations Dennis Fast: Wildlife as I see it Susan McGillivray: Music with pictures Mufty Mathewson: Rehabilitation patients at work Larry Easton: Sacred places in rural Saskatchewan & art of architecture Darlene Young: Introduction to liquid art photography Early Bird registration fee of $95.00 has been extended until August 30, 2014. After August 30, the registration fee is $120.00 The ‘2014 Frame by Frame Photo Forum’ will take place at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, Corner of Albert Street & College Avenue in Regina, Saskatchewan. You can register by Phone: 306-584-1281 E-mail: lakeviewoffice@sasktel.net Or by mailing in this registration form with your payment  ...

Update on the photography tour to Croatia

Update on the photography tour to Croatia

A short update on the photography tour to Croatia in September of 2014. My tour agent reserved additional rooms in a new place close to the boundary of the Plitvice Lakes National Park (days 6 and 7 on the photo tour itinerary). There is a chance that we will not be able to keep reservations for accommodation in a hotel within the boundaries of the national park; hotel rooms are going very fast and we do not have enough people with confirmed registration to make a deposit. Tourist centre “Marko” is located about 10 km north of the centre of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is a 3 star hotel (like many places that we will be staying at) in a beautiful natural setting of forested hills and meadows. The medium-sized complex has an on-site restaurant, outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, badminton court, and bike trails with an option for bike rentals. Check out their web site for images and hotel details.     There is also a new map with locations that we will be visiting during the photo tour, thanks to the Saskatoon photographer Nina Henry who put it together....
