Winding trail through prairie at dawn, Grasslands National Park – East Block. The image was taken just before sunrise at the Dawson’s Viewpoint in East Block of Grasslands NP. This particular location on a ridge west of the Poverty Ridge Warden Station provides a great view of the badlands in East Block. Follow the marked fire trail that passes by the warden station. As soon as you enter the park (drive through a gate in barb wire fence), park you vehicle in the designated parking area and continue on foot. Prairie with golden bean and in bloom, Grasslands National Park (East Block). Southern Saskatchewan received unusually high levels of moisture over the winter and early spring of 2011. As a result, grasslands in this part of the province were very green and covered in a lush carpet of spring wildflowers. In June of that year I made a trip to the badlands of East Block near Kildeer. The flowers were beautiful, although not as abundant as I was hoping for – probably the lack of heat had some influence. Fall colours along South Saskatchewan River at Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatoon. This image was taken on the east edge of the Opimihaw Creek valley, very close to a spot where eroding action of the South Saskatchewan River forms steep cliffs called Cathedral Peak. A 1.3 km long Trail of the Buffalo leads from the Information centre to a rest stop with a bench, and a magnificent view of the valley & South Saskatchewan River below. Fall colours along South Saskatchewan River at Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatoon. A 1.3 km long Trail of the Buffalo leads from the Information centre to a rest stop with a bench, and a magnificent view of the valley & South Saskatchewan River below. Close-up of fall colours in Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatoon. This images was taken along the walking trail in Opimihaw Creek valley. Patchy forest stands of balsam poplar, green ash, Manitoba maple, trembling aspen and birch offer a variety of colour when the season is right.
