Winding trail through prairie at dawn, Grasslands National Park – East Block. The image was taken just before sunrise at the Dawson’s Viewpoint in East Block of Grasslands NP. Prairie with golden bean and in bloom, Grasslands National Park (East Block). Southern Saskatchewan received unusually high levels of moisture over the winter and early spring of 2011. As a result, grasslands in this part of the province were very green and covered in a lush carpet of spring wildflowers. In June of that year I made a trip to the badlands of East Block near Kildeer. Glacial erratics (solitary boulders) in Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan This location along the border with Montana is still on a private land, and I had to obtain permission from the land owner to access the site. The area will be incorporated in the Grasslands National Park if the rancher decides to sell his land to the Park. I used a fill-in flash to soften the harsh shadow cast by the setting sun.
