Saskatoon watercross race

Last weekend I went down to the Saskatoon River Landing with my coffee buddies Rick Elvin, Bas Hobson, Bob Littlejohn and Scott Prokop to photograph watercross races on the South Saskatchewan River. Watercross is an unusual sport – it can best be described as motocross on water jet skis. Riders zoom around an obstacle course at speeds up to 100 kilometres per hour. About 36 top racers from Canada and the USA took part in the 2013 Western Canadian Watercross Nationals. The program also included a wakeboarding demonstration (surf boarding on a wake produced by a speed boat that pulls the...

Photo Contest – The World We Live In

Canadian photography magazines Photo Life and Photo Solution are inviting photographers to submit their best work to The World We Live In photo contest. Landscape Photography Workshop a success

Big thank you to enthusiastic photographers who attended the Landscape Photography and Basic Digital Workflow photo workshop on Sunday. We had a full slate of participants not only from the Saskatoon area, but places further away;  Beverly and Gail drove up from Regina, and Patricia came from Big River. After a short break with treats, I talked about the basics of digital capture and then...

Horse in pasture with sagebrush, Val Marie PFRA Community Pasture

I spent several hours photographing a group on horses near the Val Marie PFRA community pasture headquarters. This horse decided to run through a field of sagebrush to catch up with his buddies. Val Marie PFRA is the largest community pasture in Saskatchewan, containing over 41,256 hectares (101,946 acres) of magnificent native prairie. Frenchman River flows through the pasture, with rugged valley slopes adding to it’s photographic appeal. Together with the adjacent Beaver Valley PFRA pasture, there are over 200,000 acres (80,000 hectares) of un-interrupted native prairie. Something...
