Iceland photography tour – Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss waterfall

The second day of the tour to Iceland was filled with great photography opportunities just a short drive from Reykjavik. Tim took us to the Þingvellir National Park on Reykjanes peninsula, a remarkable geological site with a rift valley that separates the Eurasian and North American plates. This geological formation is part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a tectonic plate boundary along the floor of the Atlantic ocean that forms the longest mountain range in the world. The two tectonic plates still separate from each other at a rate of 2.5 cm per year, a constant source of earthquakes and active...

Iceland photography tour – Reykjavik

I just returned from a two-week photography trip with a group of friends to Iceland. The tour was led by photographer and guide Tim Vollmer. Although I have a definitive proof that there is life on Mars, I could not find any indication whether this was a sign of the presence of an intelligent life form.

Winter photography in Kootenay Plains, Alberta

At the end of February I had a chance to spend two days photographing in Kotenay Plains near Nordegg, Alberta. This unique wilderness is one of the last undeveloped areas on the easterly slopes of Canadian Rockies, half-way between Jasper and Banff National Parks. Because of the rain shadow effect caused by the Rockies to the west, there is much less moisture compared to other places just an hour drive away. You can see the climate effect on the vegetation – the semi-arid plains rich in plants and animals, and conifer forests that are much thinner compared to forests in the Rockies....
