Saskatoon watercross race

Last weekend I went down to the Saskatoon River Landing with my coffee buddies Rick Elvin, Bas Hobson, Bob Littlejohn and Scott Prokop to photograph watercross races on the South Saskatchewan River. Watercross is an unusual sport – it can best be described as motocross on water jet skis. Riders zoom around an obstacle course at speeds up to 100 kilometres per hour. About 36 top racers from Canada and the USA took part in the 2013 Western Canadian Watercross Nationals. The program also included a wakeboarding demonstration (surf boarding...

Landscape Photography Workshop a success

Big thank you to enthusiastic photographers who attended the Landscape Photography and Basic Digital Workflow photo workshop on Sunday. We had a full slate of participants not only from the Saskatoon area, but places further away;  Beverly and Gail drove up from Regina, and Patricia came from Big River. The format that I chose for half-day photo workshops at the Ancient Spirals Retreat is working as planned. We had an introductory tutorial where I covered the topic of  ‘light in the landscape’. After a short break with treats, I...

Canada’s Parks Day is usually celebrated on the third Saturday in July of every year. Another, related event is the annual release of a report by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) on the ecological health and...

Article about PFRA community pastures by Laura Stewart

Saskatchewan singer, song-writer and author Laura Stewart wrote a passionate and reflective article about the PFRA community pastures for the latest edition of Briarpatch magazine. A few of my images were used to illustrate the story. Here are a few excerpts from the article titled A voice for the grasslands: The struggle for an endangered prairie ecosystem. “My first such assignment (.. survey of plant species..) in a PFRA pasture was 15 years ago. So powerful and overwhelming was that meeting with vastness and vibrant prairie life...
